The Magpie Bakery FAQ
Use these answers as a starting point, then follow the linked live service or contact the bakery when availability, ingredients, or timing matters.
Start with the right source
Permanent details — address, hours, how ordering works — live on this website. Rotating menu items, available dates, and checkout choices live on Magpie's outside ordering services, and those live menus always win when the two disagree. The answers below are grouped by topic:
Visiting
Address, hours, directions, and first-visit tips all live on the Visit page; here are the short answers.
Where in Bloomingdale is The Magpie Bakery?
The only Magpie storefront is at 2-14 Riverside Square, Bloomingdale, NJ 07403, in the Riverside Square plaza. The Visit page links live turn-by-turn directions from wherever you're starting.
When is Magpie open?
Regular hours are Mon & Sun 8–3 · Tue–Sat 8–5. Around holidays the schedule can shift, so call (973) 291-6756 if your trip depends on exact timing.
Is Magpie a café as well as a bakery?
Yes — one storefront serves both. The café counter pours coffee, tea, matcha, and cold drinks right beside the bakery case, so you can pair a drink with whatever catches your eye through the glass.
Do I need to order before I visit?
No. Walking in and shopping the case is the classic Magpie visit. The case rotates daily, though, so if you're driving over for one specific item, check the live same-day menu or call first.
Everyday & future orders
Rotating items, available dates, and checkout choices live on Magpie's outside ordering services; the Order Online page explains each handoff before it happens, and the menu page shows the shape of what Magpie bakes.
How do I know what's in the bakery case right now?
The live same-day menu at magpiebakerytogo.com is the current source for today's items. This website describes the categories Magpie bakes; the live menu owns the day-to-day selection.
What's the difference between ordering for today and ordering ahead?
Same-day orders go through the live menu, which lists what is actually available right now. Future pickups are arranged directly with the bakery — send your date and list through the contact form on this website, or call, and Magpie confirms the order with you. The Order Online page walks through both paths.
What happens if something sells out?
Small-batch baking means popular items genuinely run out. The live menu updates as the day goes on, and for a must-have bake, ordering ahead through the contact form or by phone is the safer route.
Can Magpie deliver my order?
This website doesn't promise delivery. Whatever fulfillment choices exist for a given order are the ones the ordering service shows at checkout, so review them there before you submit.
Custom cakes & weddings
The full picture is on the custom cakes page and the wedding desserts page.
When should I start a custom-cake conversation?
As soon as the date is real. A small bakery's calendar fills unevenly — some weekends book quickly — and the bakery can only confirm feasibility after seeing your date, serving count, and design direction. Starting early simply keeps more options open.
What information makes a cake inquiry go faster?
The event date, how many people the cake should serve, flavor preferences, and any inspiration photos or theme notes. With those in hand, the bakery can respond with real answers instead of a round of follow-up questions.
Does sending an inquiry mean my cake is booked?
No. The inquiry starts a conversation; the order is confirmed only after the bakery reviews the date and design and replies. Until then, nothing is held.
Does Magpie do wedding cakes and dessert tables?
Yes — wedding cakes, dessert tables, and combinations of both, for couples across North Jersey. The wedding desserts page explains how that planning conversation works, and the cake gallery shows real past Magpie work.
Catering & gifts
Trays, platters, and business gifts are planned person-to-person — the catering & corporate gifts page covers what to prepare.
Can Magpie supply desserts for an office or party?
Yes. Dessert trays, cookie platters, and bakery boxes for offices, parties, and events are planned directly with the bakery so the selection matches the occasion and the headcount.
Do you make logo or branded cookies for businesses?
Branded and logo cookies are part of the catering-and-gifts conversation. Reach out with the artwork, quantity, and date, and the bakery will confirm what it can produce.
How do I get a catering conversation started?
Call (973) 291-6756 or send a message through Magpie's contact form with the date, expected headcount, and the kind of spread you're imagining. The bakery replies to shape the details with you.
Dietary questions
Magpie bakes everything in one shared kitchen — the vegan options page explains the rotation and the shared-kitchen disclosure in full.
Are vegan baked goods available?
Vegan items rotate through the case rather than living on a fixed menu. The vegan options page explains how the rotation works, and the live menu or a phone call answers what's available on a given day.
Does Magpie bake anything gluten-free?
Wheat is handled throughout the kitchen, and Magpie doesn't market an allergen-free environment, so nothing on this site should be read as a gluten-free promise. If gluten matters to your order, talk with the bakery directly about what's possible.
How does the bakery handle nut allergies?
Nuts are used in the same kitchen and on shared equipment as everything else, and no allergen-free claim is made. Contact the bakery before ordering so you can decide with full information.
Where can I get ingredient details for a specific item?
Ask the bakery directly — call, send a message, or ask at the counter. Because the case rotates, a person at the bakery is a better source than any static list on this website.
Still have a question?
If it isn't covered above, contact the bakery — call, email, or send a message, and a person who was in the kitchen that morning answers.
